Standards Board (SDB)

The NACVA Standards Board (SDB) is the standard-setting body charged with creating and promulgating NACVA’s/GACVA’s Professional Standards (Professional Standards). The SDB’s mission is to support the broad use and harmonization of the Professional Standards for the purpose of promoting consistency, credibility, transparency, professional ethics, and quality in valuation and other professional services as they pertain to NACVA’s/GACVA’s members/credentialed designees.

The SDB reports to the NACVA Executive Advisory Board (EAB).

The SDB’s responsibilities are:

  • To provide interpretations, amendments, restatements, and new releases to the Professional Standards.
  • To provide continuing education and training of the Professional Standards to our membership.
  • To update supplemental guidance and reference tools, including but not limited to:
    • U.S. Business Valuation/Appraisal Standards Comparison Chart
    • International Business Valuation/Appraisal Standards Comparison Chart
    • International Glossary of Appraisal/Valuation Terms—U.S. Domestic Comparison Chart of Definitions
    • International Glossary of Appraisal/Valuation Terms—International Comparison Chart of Definitions
    • Standards and Ethics FAQs—Preparation and compilation of FAQs providing guidance from the SDB and Ethics Oversight Board (EOB)
    • Standards and Ethics Q&A Hotline—Current and past SDB and/or EOB members respond to Professional Standards and ethics questions from our membership
  • To build and maintain collaborative relationships with other valuation professional organizations.
  • To respond to requests for comments/feedback from other organizations making such requests from NACVA where standards and/or related matters are involved.
  • To collaborate and apprise the governing boards and international chapters with respect to the Professional Standards and related matters.
  • To respond as requested/directed by the EAB to matters they deem appropriate for the SDB.

The SDB works in conjunction with the Leadership Initiative Board (LIB) in matters of legislation or regulatory when and where the SDB has concerns. In such matters, two assigned representatives from the SDB act as liaisons between the two bodies and participate on LIB meetings where common issues are being discussed. All decisions approved by the SDB must also be approved by the EAB before going to the membership. A copy of the Professional Standards can be found on NACVA’s website at www.NACVA.com/Standards.
