Staying the course and focusing on the future of the Association over the past few months has been more than challenging. Restructuring operations, adapting to challenges seen and unforeseen, galvanizing staff and Association leaders have inspired innovation and a clear vision for the future of our global Association, but also deep appreciation for the efforts taken for nearly three decades seeing that our hard work and dedication to the profession is paying off. Defying the odds, NACVA’s global network, brand, and credibility is vibrant and growing.
Younger and Steadily Growing Global Association
Chris Mercer, FASA, CFA, ABAR, and Founder/CEO of Mercer Capital, reported during his keynote address The Future of Our Profession and Your Role In It, during the June 2020 Business Valuation and Financial Litigation Virtual Super Conference, that NACVA’s membership and credential designee base is younger and more diverse than our peer organizations, and steadily growing.

Remaining committed to diversity and building future generations of members and credential designees, we are thrilled to announce the 2020 40 Under Forty honorees—the sixth consecutive year for this recognition program—during the August 2020 BVFL Virtual Super Conference.
I am also honored to announce that I began a two-year term as the Vice President for Practice for the Forensic Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA) in May of this year. The Forensic Accounting Section (FAS) is the fastest growing section of the AAA. Having attended the AAA Annual Meeting for the past several years, and the Allied Social Sciences Association annual meeting—the annual meeting for the American Economic Association—we have steadily grown the University CVA Credentialing Program giving students a competitive edge to launch their careers in the financial valuation profession. Elected by the members of the FAS, my tenure with the AAA FAS will involve bridging academics with practice and further cultivating opportunities for students to find career opportunities in our profession. If you would be interested in “paying it forward” and inviting your alma mater to the University CVA Credentialing Program, give me a call!
I am also pleased to announce the formation of the Global Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (GACVA) Advisory Council. There has been increased GACVA activity in recent years, including the launch of new chapters and several ones pending. Comprised of leaders from GACVA chapters, the Advisory Council’s objectives include: building upon the momentum and successes for individual chapters, collaborating on global credential designee and membership growth initiatives, developing continuing education programs, collaborating on international valuation standards issues, interpretations, and training, among other initiatives.
The Age of the Generalist Comes to an End
Mr. Mercer also reported during his June keynote that our profession will be rejuvenated through specialization.
