Program Description:
From a profit perspective, in 2015 the healthcare sector generated earnings per share growth well ahead of the growth of other sectors, whereas the broader index had a 1.0% decrease. The sector’s fundamentals have been improving, and expectations are strong for continued profitability. Because there are many fast-growing smaller companies in the healthcare sector, it is essential to understand how the industry operates, how to incorporate a company in the appropriate industry or sub-industry classification, and how to analyze a company in that industry. The CVAs who perform valuations in any healthcare sub segment must develop a valuation report for the client that identifies all the significant variables. This must be done with a clear understanding that these sectors and companies have very different risk profiles. Therefore, each company has a very different access to capital and a different cost of capital. The industry level data, observations, and analysis are presented in an ordered fashion where the cumulative insights flow in a decision-supportive progression. Specifically, the progression moves from revenue trends and profit margins, to earnings growth, to leverage and valuation—with a direct impact on a better financial and investment perspective.
After completing this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Identify the healthcare industry trends and how the industry operates within a highly regulated environment
- Recognize how to analyze a company in this industry
- Determine how to capture the factors that contribute to the healthcare industry risks, as well as company specific factors, specific to healthcare companies
- Recognize why the fair market value standard is a little different than for other non-healthcare firms
- Recognize common pitfalls in projecting cash flows and how to better forecast the cost of capital
