Program Description:
This course will provide validation of the relevance and importance of financial statements and reported earnings when valuing a company, even though there are some huge differences between book and market values of most companies and in particular publicly traded stocks. While earnings should be the primary basis for valuing a company, there are many ways the earnings could be used to determine the valuation.
Takeaways Attendees will gain a new way to look at how earnings drive the valuations of all companies including publicly traded stocks. The course will address the “myth” of intangible value “calculations." It will examine the deteriorating significance of book value on a company’s value
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the shifting importance of the income statement over the balance sheet in company valuations
- Determine the fallacies of EBITDA
- Identify misconceptions of the significance of the statement of cash flows
- Differentiate the growing importance of market value over book value
- Identify why intangible value courses are not taught at colleges but cost accounting is being taught the way it was 50 years ago
- Determine why normalized earnings should be the only basis for a company's valuation except when it should not
- Recognize why earnings should be a factor in valuing the long-term value of a company
