Program Description:
This course will assist business valuation professionals developing an understanding of "Implied Private Company Pricing Line" (IPCPL) theory, evidence, and methods. IPCPL was introduced by well-known valuation profession leaders Bob Dohmeyer, Rod Burkert, and Pete Butler about 10 years ago, and the formal theory and empirical evidence has developed steadily since that time. Because IPCPL methods represent an objective method of estimating discounts for lack of marketability in private capital markets, IPCPL is important for all business valuation professionals to understand.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize how IPCPL relates to estimated risk-adjusted discount rates and what IPCPL represents in terms of risk pricing and private market transaction costs
- Determine the nature and quantity of empirical evidence supporting IPCPL theory
- Identify the procedures necessary to apply IPCPL theory to the estimation of private market transaction costs, transaction cost-adjusted risk-adjusted discount rates, and discounts for lack of marketability
