Family limited partnerships are a powerful tool in estate planning. At the basic level, a family limited partnership is a holding company owned by two or more family members that is created to retain a family's business interests. While a powerful tool, they can easily become complex with tax, legal, and other ramifications. This course, "Valuing Family Limited Partnerships" presented by Peter Agrapides, explores the importance of the partnership agreement, the relevant Internal Revenue Code with a focus on estate freezes, case law pertaining to family limited partnerships, empirical data focusing on discount for lack of marketability (DLOC) and discount for lack of control (DLOM), and tiered discounts regarding family limited partnerships. Peter Agrapides shares his experiences and insights in this industry. He earned his MBA and served as an economist for seven years before starting his valuation practice in 2006. In that time, 95% of his practice is Gift and Estate Tax valuations, with 70% of those valuations focusing on Family Limited Partnerships.

- Recognize pertinent sections of a Partnership/Operating Agreement to
support the analysts discounts for lack of control & marketability
- Identify the various Tax Code sections pertinent to these valuations
- Determine their analysis of the Agreement and Tax Code sections in their valuation report
