Pro-Bono Services

Enabling You, the Finance Professional, to Volunteer with Start Small Think Big to “Give-Back” to Businesses/Business Owners and Their Respective Communities in Need!
NACVA continues its yearly Pro Bono Day of Service on the following dates:
- July 27, 2026 | 4:00 p.m. ET
- September 16, 2026 | 4:00 p.m. ET
- December 16, 2026 | 4:00 p.m. ET
This program entails helping small business owners from marginalized communities by virtually connecting them with NACVA volunteer credential holders who offer their expertise in specific, time-bound one-on-one discussions centered around the business owner’s bookkeeping knowledge or helping them better understand the numbers behind their business. This year will be NACVA’s third year supporting this program. To register for an event, please click here to provide us with your information.
Follow-Up Commitment: We now ask that volunteers be available for both the initial session and 1 follow-up session, as needed (scheduled at the end of the initial session, based on availability). To help facilitate this, volunteers should come prepared with at least three available dates and times for potential follow-ups. This ensures that, if an entrepreneur would benefit from continued support, a follow-up can be scheduled efficiently at the end of the session."
The Pro-Bono Task Force of NACVA’s Litigation Forensics Board is proud to announce this pro-bono service project in conjunction with Start Small Think Big.
Start Small Think Big is a nonprofit that helps small business owners from marginalized communities. We do this by connecting these businesses to volunteer professionals who offer their expertise and specialty services in specific, time bound, one-on-one virtual engagements.
Start Small Think Big pre-qualifies the business/business owner to ensure their need does not take advantage of your pro-bono services.
The benefits are numerous:
- Provides how finance professionals can assist in the growth of businesses and the personal satisfaction it will bring
- Ability to interact with other professionals who are assisting the particular business owner and their office/accounting staff with understanding how their financial statements will enable them to be better and more knowledgeable business owners (e.g., unit costs, cost of goods sold, financial projections, fixed and variable costs, etc.)
- Assist in developing specific better business relationships (e.g., legal, accounting, banking, financing, insurance, computer processing, etc.)
- Expanding your knowledge of new and different business industries
- Ability to expand your referral contacts
- Ability to (possibly) create a new business relationship that may grow into a “paying” client
Michael Kaplan, Advisor, Litigation Forensics Board, stated the following:
Providing guidance to business owners in economic disadvantaged communities is something that comes right from the heart. This guidance makes a huge difference in the future (and beyond) of the future of the business entity. It can be the difference between failure and success, and benefits the business owners and communities who really need it the most.
