CVA Designation Achieves ANSI Accreditation—First Quarter 2020

CVA Designation Achieves ANSI Accreditation
Jonathan Jackson
Executive Director, NACVA
Good news seems to be a scarcity during these challenging and uncertain times, but NACVA has worked diligently to bring some positive news to its members and credential holders. Underscoring its leadership and commitment to excellence in the business valuation discipline, NACVA is pleased to announce the achievement of accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for the Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation.
Attaining ANSI accreditation is a major milestone for NACVA. Becoming ANSI accredited demonstrates NACVA’s commitment to the continual improvement of its credentialing programs and compliance to a rigorous internationally recognized accreditation process. It also creates a clear and valuable market distinction for the CVA credential by satisfying the highest level of professionalism and credibility.
Along with ANSI accreditation, the CVA designation is also accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), a division of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). NACVA’s CVA is part of an elite group of only a few thousand credentials worldwide that have received either the NCCA or ANSI accreditation. Only four credentials in the world hold both the NCCA and ANSI accreditations. NCCA and ANSI have some very high-profile members who appreciate the importance of these two credential standard setting organizations. Some of NCCA’s members include AICPA, CFA Institute, American Management Association, Microsoft, Facebook, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Who of this list is the only one to have the NCCA accreditation? You guessed it—NACVA. Thus, we are at the head of the pack.
Let’s put this in perspective! Because the CVA designation has obtained both ANSI and NCCA accreditation, this is analogous to climbing the Seven Summits (the highest peaks on each continent) and sailing the Seven Seas. This has only been attempted and achieved by a few people, one of whom is Martin Frey (shown below). Similarly, obtaining the NCCA and the ANSI accreditation has been accomplished by only a few designations worldwide, and our CVA is the only one within the financial consulting discipline. This is a big deal! No other business valuation credential can boast this level of quality and integrity, which is a key distinction between the CVA and other valuation credentials like the ABV, ASA, and CEIV.

To obtain the CVA credential, the candidate may opt to attend training that delivers comprehensive foundational teachings from a Body of Knowledge on how to value private business enterprises. Candidates are trained on business valuation theory, methodology, and applications using a case study approach. Accompanying this, we teach to professional standards, ethics, and where applicable, specialty areas within the valuation arena. This training prepares financial professionals to a point where they can demonstrate skill and proficiency in the field, verified by preparing a business valuation report, and successfully passing a rigorous proctored exam.
Obtaining the CVA credential provides confidence to credential holders, enhances their reputation with clients, and validates qualifications to the courts, businesses, and legal community that the CVA can competently determine and articulate business value. ANSI and NCCA accreditation serve as third-party confirmation that NACVA’s CVA credential has been developed to meet the highest level of standards and best practices that are recognized globally.
This achievement demonstrates that we are continuously raising the bar with our certification programs to ensure the development of qualified professionals to meet market demands and produce top-notch practitioners and industry leaders. Accreditation enhances the value of the CVA designation and elevates the position of our certificant holders as the most valued financial professionals in the valuation and financial forensic industries.
A derivative outcome of applying the consistent and fair application of NCCA and ANSI promulgated policies and procedures across the organization is it has elevated every aspect of our operations and internal controls, giving us a solid foothold for our next mountain to climb: We have begun to pursue accreditation for the Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF) designation through the NCCA.
During these uncertain times, something that we have tangible certainty with is the integrity of our credentialing programs. Translating that into success for our members and credential holders, CVAs need to boast about it, and take advantage of these two accreditations by posting wherever you display your credential, the following:
