Program Description
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming valuation and financial forensic practices by enhancing efficiency in research, data analysis, document review, modeling support, and report drafting. While these technologies offer significant opportunities to improve productivity and streamline workflows, they also introduce new ethical, professional, and regulatory risks that valuation professionals must carefully manage.

This course examines the intersection of AI, professional ethics, and valuation standards, focusing on how existing professional responsibilities apply when AI tools are incorporated into valuation engagements. Participants will explore guidance from NACVA, including the Advisory Brief: The Use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, as well as relevant provisions within NACVA Professional Standards, AICPA Statement on Standards for Valuation Services (SSVS) No. 1, ASA Business Valuation Standards and Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics (PAPCE), and USPAP requirements.

Through practical examples and recent legal and regulatory developments, attendees will examine risks associated with confidentiality, data security, source verification, documentation, transparency, and professional judgment. The program will discuss notable cases involving AI-generated misinformation, fabricated citations, and regulatory enforcement actions that illustrate why professionals remain fully responsible for conclusions reached and representations made, regardless of the technology used.

The course will also provide practical guidance for integrating AI into valuation practices while maintaining compliance with professional standards. Topics include developing internal AI policies, documenting AI-assisted work, implementing quality control procedures, managing client confidentiality, drafting engagement letter disclosures, and establishing appropriate verification protocols.

Attendees will gain a framework for evaluating AI-assisted work products and learn how to leverage emerging technologies responsibly without compromising professional integrity, objectivity, competence, or credibility. The program emphasizes a central principle increasingly recognized across valuation standards and professional guidance: AI may assist the valuation process, but professional judgment and responsibility remain with the analyst.

How You Will Benefit
After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify ethical and professional risks associated with the use of AI in valuation engagements
  • Explain how NACVA Professional Standards, SSVS No. 1, ASA standards, and USPAP requirements apply to AI-assisted valuation work
  • Examine confidentiality and data security concerns arising from the use of generative AI platforms
  • Assess AI-generated research, analyses, and outputs for reliability, accuracy, and sufficiency of support
  • Distinguish between appropriate uses of AI as an analytical aid and inappropriate reliance on AI-generated conclusions
  • Analyze recent legal and regulatory developments involving AI and their implications for valuation professionals
  • Use documentation and workpaper practices that support transparency and compliance when AI tools are utilized
  • Apply practical policies, procedures, and disclosure practices to responsibly integrate AI into valuation engagements
Take Aways
After completing this course, attendees will be able to responsibly incorporate AI tools into valuation engagements while maintaining compliance with professional standards and ethical obligations. Participants will understand how to identify and mitigate risks related to confidentiality, documentation, source verification, and professional judgment. They will leave with practical strategies for developing AI governance policies, documenting AI-assisted work, and ensuring that valuation conclusions remain credible, defensible, and professionally supportable.

Who Should Attend
Business valuation professionals, forensic accountants, litigation support practitioners, CPAs, analysts, and appraisal professionals who use or are considering the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in their practices will benefit from this program. The course is designed for professionals seeking to understand how emerging AI technologies can be integrated into valuation engagements while maintaining compliance with applicable professional standards and ethical responsibilities.
