Topics covered:
Tales from the Trench: This session will focus on various case studies for Forensic and Damages matters relating to investigating Fraud, Embezzlement and Damages matters. There will be summaries of various real-life engagement and the trial and tribulations incurred when investigation them. This will include how exhibits should be prepared to support conclusion as well as the layout of an expert report supporting the findings.
Using Technology to become more efficient-The Future is here.  How will you adapt? This session will focus on the latest tools FLVS practitioner use to review and analyze data and information supplied to them. This will include a review of the tools and features included in off-the shelf software (QuickBooks) as well as additional software that can be used and applied to data files or hard copy documents to prepare them for analysis. There will be some examples using technology on how to do some of these features.
Marketing your Expert Services - Shaping your personal Brand: This session will focus on the marketing of FLVS Services. How can you make yourself famous with your potential referral sources. There will be a discussion of the traditional marketing techniques along with how to use social medial and other outlets. The focus will be transforming the practitioner approach to "Going to Market", personal branding and become a sought after Thought Leader.
Record Reliability - Expert Dilemmas: This session will focus on the reliability of evidence provided during discovery. What if information is suspected of being false or fraudulent? What is the duly of the practitioner to verify the accuracy of document? Is the practitioner liable if they use information that is not accurate? What should the practitioner do if they suspect information is fraudulent or worse know it has been manipulated? Dealing with ethical dilemmas with some real-life case examples for discussion.
The Art of the Deal - Reconciling Rebuttals: This session will focus on what to do when there are differences between expert report. How do you separate yourself and provide clarity to support your position. This session will focus on how to effectively rebut opposing expert while also providing clarity for your position using a simple compare and contrast vs. an all-out attack approach when experts disagree on findings. How you relay your analysis and findings to the client, counsel or the court so they understand the difference in an effective alternative to a scorched earth approach. There will be a discussion on the common mistakes made by practitioners in valuation and damages reports and how to avoid the pitfalls and traps.
Hubert Klein, CPA/ABV/CFF/CGMA, CFE, CVA is a Partner in the Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services Group. With nearly 30 years of experience, Hubert is frequently called upon as a technical resource in various litigation actions. He has consulted and provided services in matters including complex damages, business valuations, due diligence analysis, fraud and forensic investigations, matrimonial proceedings, lost profit calculations, shareholder disputes, insurance claims analysis, succession planning, and estate and gift planning.
