Program Description
This webinar will be primarily based on Dr. Gaughan's book, Measuring Business Interruption Losses and Other Commercial Damages, John Wiley & Sons, 2nd edition, 2009. The focus of the book is on measuring damages in business interruption lawsuits. It covers topics such as the selection of experts, disclosure requirements and gathering the necessary documents to reliably measure damages.
In addition, this webinar will cover the methods used to estimate loss profits including forecasting lost revenues as well as measuring the applicable costs associated with these revenues. The webinar will also discuss the risk adjustment process and the selection of the appropriate discount rate.

Patrick A. Gaughan, Ph.D. Dr. Patrick Gaughan is a graduate-level professor of economics and finance at the College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. He is also president of Economatrix Research Associates, Inc., which is an economic and financial consulting firm on Wall Street in New York City, in Newark, NJ and in Miami, FL.
Dr. Gaughan has authored numerous publications including, Measuring Business Interruption Losses and Other Commercial Damages, 2ed (Wiley 2009). He also authored the award winning textbook Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Restructuring, 4th ed (John Wiley and Sons 2004). His other works include, Mergers: What Can Go Wrong and How to Prevent It (Wiley 2005)., and Developments in Litigation Economics (Elsevier 2006). He has published articles in various scholarly journals including International Review of Law & Economics, Journal of Forensic Economics, Journal of Legal Economics, Litigation Economics Digest and Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance.
Henry Fuentes, CPA, MBA, ABV Mr. Henry Fuentes is currently Vice-President of Economatrix Research Associates and is Director of Litigation Support and Business Valuation Services for the accounting and consulting firm of Sax Macy Fromm & Co., P.C. Mr. Fuentes is a tenured Associate Professor in the College of Business at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he has taught accounting and auditing for 33 years, he was formerly the chairperson of the Department of Accounting and Associate Dean of the College. He has an undergraduate degree in accounting, a master's degree in Finance and currently has certifications as a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Fraud Examiner and is Accredited in Business Valuation.
Mr. Fuentes has given numerous lectures on accounting, auditing, fraud and valuation matters to various organizations including the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, NJSCPA and National Law Foundation. He has also conducted various in house training seminars for public accounting firms and private industry. |
