Either you work Excel, or it works you! This training is focused on helping financial consultants automate manual, repetitive, and even unimaginable tasks using Excel. The sessions are designed specifically to help financial advisors take their skills to the next level so they can be more efficient in practice. Most financial advisors use a tiny fraction of Excel’s capabilities, which both wastes time and hinders effectiveness. Even if you are an Excel “guru”, we promise you will be surprised at how much you can gain from this training.

How You Will Benefit

After completing this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Use Excel’s COUNTIF function withConditional Formatting
  • Identify the requirements of ideal data sets to be analyzed within your pivot tables
  • Create a pivot table from a list of data 
  • Recognize the nuances of pivot table formatting
  • Use Excel’s PivotTable feature to condense large amounts of information into manageable chunks
  • Test that a pivot table is actually referencing all the data you are expecting to be summarized
  • Explain formula errors, such as #VALUE!, #REF!, #N/A, and more
  • Specify what types of user actions can trigger #REF! errors
  • Use Excel’s Filter feature to quickly scan a column for # sign errors
  • Summarize how the Table feature allows you to transform filtering tasks
  • Organize formula writing by using the Use in Formula command
  • Employ a simple design technique that greatly improves the integrity of Excel’s SUM function

Module 1: Accelerate Excel: Dealing With Duplicate Data
  • Apply the Advanced Filter feature and the Remove Duplicates feature
  • Define how to visually identify duplicate records with the Conditional Formatting feature
  • Identify how to use a pivot table to quickly ascertain how many times duplicates appear within a list

Module 2: Accelerate Excel: Pivot Tables Part 1
  • Identify how to expand and collapse groups of data within a pivot table
  • Identify the best approach for formatting numbers within pivot tables
  • Define the default location for pivot table data when you click a checkbox for a given field

Modules 3: Accelerate Excel: Pivot Tables Part 2

  • Quickly transform lists of raw data into usable reports in just a few simple steps
  • Explore the Slicers feature introduced in Excel 2010
  • Compare calculation methods within pivot tables

Module 4: Accelerate Excel: Deciphering Error Prompts
  • Track down the ripple effect of errors in spreadsheets with Excel’s Trace Error command
  • Compare and contrast IFNA, IFERROR, and ISERROR functions and learn which versions of Excel support these worksheet functions
  • Understand frequently encountered error prompts in Excel

Module 5: Accelerate Excel: Building Better Budgets
  • Define how to isolate all user entries to an inputs worksheet, while protecting all calculations and budget schedules on additional worksheets
  • Apply range names and the Table feature to create resilient and easy-to-maintain spreadsheets
  • Identify how to calculate borrowings from and repayments toward a working capital line of credit
