Program Description: The world of valuation is a complex discipline in which seemingly minor errors can significantly impact value. Join us for this course to learn about some of the most common errors made when valuing a business and how to address these issues. Not only will you gain insight into potential areas for improvement in your own valuation analyses, but you will also learn how to more effectively review opposing experts’ reports.

Session 2: Analyzing Personal Goodwill in Matrimonial and Estate Valuations
Presenter: Bill Ditty
Program Description: This course will cover two specialty areas of business valuation: divorce, and gift and estate. In recent divorce business valuation matters, the determination of goodwill has been front and center. We will analyze court decisions and evaluate how various states are dealing with personal goodwill. On the gift and estate side, the recognition of personal goodwill as identifiable components has reduced estate and gift tax burdens. This webinar will discuss these findings. Each attendee will be prepared to: ask the right questions on how to identify personal goodwill, walk away with tools and techniques to quantify personal goodwill, and understand how recent court decisions could support the attributable value to personal goodwill.

Session 3: Assessing Risk in Valuing a Business
Presenter: Bill Ditty
Program Description: This course defines the meaning of risk and explores how different factors impact the level of risk that an investor faces as a result of investing in the ownership interest in a business. This session also explores a different way of breaking risk down into components and quantifying the level of risk from each component so that the appraiser can present it in an understandable manner in his/her report.
Learning Objectives: After completing this course, attendees will be able to:
- Recognize "risk"
- Identify and understand risks resulting from different factors (i.e., economic, market, industry, and business)
- Determine the level of risk resulting from each factor using analytical tools such as coefficient of variation, ratio analysis, DuPont analysis, bankruptcy prediction models, etc.
- Determine your risk assessment due diligence within your business valuation report and conclusion

- Determine techniques that they can take back to the office to use or avoid
