NACVA’s Brain Trust
Opportunity to Join NACVA’s Business Development Committee

Almost since our inception, the wind beneath NACVA’s wings has been our members. This is true for new ideas, quality control, sweat equity, program execution, and much more. In the beginning, my partner and I tried to do everything ourselves thinking that is the way it is supposed to be, right? A few years into our new NACVA venture, we found ourselves overwhelmed, and about a year after that, my partner and I had a falling out. I instantly felt panic—how could I keep this organization together? Just as importantly, how could I possibly grow programs and services to keep pace with what seemed to be a snowball gathering speed? The solution, though right in front of my eyes, was revealed to me when confiding with one of our members who said in all sincerity, “Just let me know what I can do to help. I’ll do it, I’ll be there for you.” He went on to say, “I know four or five other members who feel the same way I do. I’ll call them if you wish.” It was in that moment I realized the Brain Trust did not reside in me or my partner, it fell within our budding membership of about 800.

What evolved was the formal establishment of boards, committees, teams and task forces (Groups). With our Groups, we made a lot happen and NACVA grew from its meager beginnings to an association of over 7,000 members, world-wide, today. I feel tremendous gratitude to those early members who came to my rescue, because without them, we would not be here today.

Those members and the many others who have helped us along the way, have benefitted too and not just from having a more supportive full-service NACVA. Through their involvement, they have made friends and associations that have helped them in their careers. Their involvement in our education has put them at the top of the game, with many becoming experts in specialized areas within the NACVA fields, some even writing books. Knowing the ins-and-outs of the NACVA organization has helped them get more value from their membership. Most of all, active and involved members use their affiliation to build their resume getting a boost to their career.

The reward for me is the joy I feel when I see a member succeed and prosper, and I have seen hundreds.

A few NACVA committees have been idle for some years but remain in-place because they have an important purpose. As you should all know, we recruited a new Executive Director last year, Jonathan Jackson. He will lead the reigniting and revitalization of these committees. The timing of which could not be better because we have numerous irons-in-the-fire and the only way to move these forward is with help from our membership.

The first committee on which we are focusing is our Business Development Committee (BDC). We have identified two projects for 2019 which, between them, will require 2 to 4 one-hour conference calls, and 4 to 8 hours preparation time. The two projects NACVA is keenly focused on is the expanded development of “NACVA’s Phone App”, and the other is evaluating/testing NACVA’s Practice Support Headquarters (PSH) website. The PSH website was built with members in mind and provides front-end navigation to everything NACVA offers to support its membership; here, members will find it easy to locate the specific support they need. So far, we have had many good comments on the PSH site from members that have used it, but the site has never actually been tested with our members. Thus, the reason we need the BDC to look at it.

Currently, we are recruiting members to join the committee. We have many projects planned well into the future with these above being the first two. This is the best way I can think of for a member of NACVA to plug-into the forefront of our growth and development. It is an exciting place to be and will look good on your resume.

To join the Business Development Committee, simply fill out the five questions located on the BDC landing page and submit; Jonathan will follow up with you shortly.
Thank you for your continued support.
