Program Description:
This webinar will address two key aspects of direct examination for the financial expert: preparation and presentation. Time will be spent on effective preparation including forming "the story," coordinating with counsel, and assuring that a layman can grasp and own the financial theories and your story. Secondly, we will talk about the objectives, demeanor, and communication skills necessary to be effective and helpful in direct examination. The webinar is designed to increase comfort with the process of direct testimony and to provide direction for further development of the skills necessary to be successful.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the imperative to be persuasive and compelling in direct examination
- Recognize the need to develop a pre-trial routine
- Determine how case themes drive how the story is told
- Identify presentation principles and "rules" to keep in mind during direct testimony
- Identify and minimize the fear and mystique of trial testimony
- Recognize the tools and resources to further develop communication skills
