Advanced Application of the Market Approach (1045)
Program Sponsor: The Institute of Business Appraisers
(IBA)
Focus
This course covers advanced theory and applications of the market
approach to business appraisal, including foundations of the market
approach, theories of markets for businesses, and the differences
between market price and market value concepts. We cover public and
private markets and the sources of data applicable to each. We compare
and contrast the guideline company method with the direct market data
method and when (and how) to use each. We extensively cover the IBA
transaction database, the largest source of transaction data in the
profession, how it compares to other sources of data, and how to
interpret the data available with the database. We show how to apply the
guideline company method, the guideline merged and acquired company
method, and the direct market data method, including extensive examples
and step-by-step tutorials.

Who Should Attend
All business appraisers should
attend this course. The focus on the market approach is
ordinarily at an elementary level in accreditation-track
curricula. Learning the theory is one thing. Learning and seeing
how to use the real-world data and apply it to several examples
makes the course practical and loaded with “takeaways.”
