Over the years, I have belonged to many
organizations but never one I believe in as much as
NACVA. And for that reason, to be honored as an
outstanding member truly means a lot to me. Especially
by an organization I consider to be so outstanding.
I have practiced in the litigation support, valuation,
and forensic accounting profession for the last 14
years and NACVA has been my primary support
organization -- providing education, mentors, and
numerous opportunities. Someone once described NACVA
to me as a “member driven organization” and that
uniqueness is precisely why I have invested my time so
heavily in NACVA. Over the years I have belonged to
the Standards Committee, the National Conference
Planning Committee, the State Chapters Committee, the
Grading Committee, and now the Litigation Forensics
Board and am an Instructor. What I find so exciting is
that as long as you have an idea and passion, you as a
member can impact the organization and really, our
profession!
NACVA’s members and staff believed in me and have
provided me with amazing opportunities to grow and
give back professionally. I have met so many mentors
and friends who have all added richly to my
professional and personal life and for that I am very
grateful.

When you told me that I was going to be the
“outstanding member” for Q1 2010 I responded “you are
kidding?” While my involvement in the organization has
grown, it hardly rises to the level of outstanding.
Really, I did not do that much, I just kept trying new
things and acted on my belief that I need to be the
“change” I want to see in the world. I have always
wanted to be a different kind of CPA and in NACVA I
have that opportunity. There is no question; I got
more than I gave. Still I am honored by the nomination
as I know it comes from people I respect and admire.
I started the journey of becoming a valuation
professional before NACVA was offering courses, but
quickly “plugged in” due to the dearth of material
that was geared to a CPA. NACVA was always a clear and
focused advocate for our involvement in this field of
practice. As the discipline grew so did the
organization and me with it. Over the years, my
practice has changed emphasis and the courses offered
allowed me to remain “relevant”. Even now I am in the
process of getting the CFFA credential, in my spare
time.
My time on the Ethics Oversight Board and prior to
that on the Quality Review and Course Review
Committees has been a real treasure. I learned
something with each position and, as with all my
involvement, I met the best people whose paths I might
not cross otherwise. Still, some of my fondest
memories are of the Florida state chapter meetings
when we were barely 40 people who met once a year.
This is where I first found the encouragement and
networking support to explore this field as a solo
practitioner, having just received my CVA.
So, it was no big stretch to take on the State Chapter
Foundation position a few years ago. The members and
developing the “local” support for our members remains
so important. We have so many great people! I have
seen this organization from many perspectives and the
more involved I am the more I know that it has been a
wise decision. While I remain a member of many other
professional organizations, each of which has things
to offer, this one stands apart for me. It has been
part of the support network that has allowed me to
prosper as a solo while meeting the many other
obligations I have. For that and the many friends and
colleagues I have met in these years, I am so very
grateful.
