Day 1—Report Writing in
Litigation
In this program, attendees will learn effective approaches to
writing an expert
report for use in a litigation matter. The course will include a
review of the
reporting requirements set forth in the Federal Rules of Civil
Procedure and
reporting requirements of other jurisdictions. The course will
also focus upon
drafting of reports with an emphasis upon content, language, and
supporting
evidence and exhibits.
Upon completion of this program,
attendees will be able to:
- List the reporting requirements set forth in Federal Rules
of Civil
Procedure 26(a)2(B)
- Identify the components of an effective expert report
- Explain the strengths, weaknesses, and risks of
alternative report styles
- Identify the risks of a substandard report
- Explain the differences between a report used for tax or
transactional
purposes and a report appropriate for the litigation process
- Describe the manner in which foundational evidence is
incorporated into
an expert report
- Explain the reasons that expert reports are often
inadmissible as evidence
in court
- Draft a well-prepared report
