Business Valuation in Litigation Workshop

Program Content

The Business Valuation in Litigation Workshop is designed to enhance litigation skills for business valuation professionals. Through this robust and intensive four-day workshop, attendees will gain an understanding of the legal environment in which valuation experts practice, practical application of business valuation in various types of legal disputes, and the
skills necessary to survive the rigors of the litigation process. Attendees will also expand their knowledge of professional standards as related to business valuation in a litigation setting and gain an understanding of the deposition and trial experience. Program attendees will be coached and guided by our seasoned faculty of valuation experts and trial lawyers. A prerequisite is a credential in business valuation or equivalent education and/or experience.

Day One: Legal Concepts for Valuation Experts and Expert Witnesses
Day Two: Professional Standards for Valuation Experts
Day Three: Report Writing in the Litigation Environment, Responding to Opinions and Reports of Experts
Day Four: Practical Application of Business Valuation in Litigation Dynamics of Litigation—Deposition and Trial Testimony

Important Notice
Effective July 1, 2012, the Business Valuation Accredited for Litigation (BVAL) designation, offered by the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA), merged into the CFFA designation—specializing in Business Valuation. NACVA will recognize the BVAL designation through December 31, 2014. Designees can hold themselves out as both a BVAL and a CFFA. After this date, a designee may still hold themselves out as a BVAL (as well as a CFFA); however, the BVAL will no longer be published and/or tied to any organization.

  • Explain professional standards governing business valuation experts in
    litigation engagements
  • Apply professional standards in the litigation environment
  • Write an effective valuation report applicable to litigation engagements
  • Identify the weaknesses of valuation reports in the litigation environment
  • List principles of effective communication in litigation
  • Apply litigation and communication skills in delivering deposition and
    trial testimony
  • Describe the dynamics of litigation in business valuation matters

Cancellation Policy
There is no charge to re-schedule training. Cancellations received in writing two weeks prior to the first day of the seminar will be eligible for a prompt refund.
A $100 administration fee will be charged for three or more day’s registration at a Consultants’ Training Institute and $50 for all other seminar registrations.
Cancellations received less than two weeks prior to the first day of the scheduled event will be issued, upon request, a credit which may be used toward a Consultants’ Training Institute seminar, conference, self-study course, software, or product sold by NACVA.
